Hue was the site of the last royal dynasty (Nguyen) of Vietnam who ruled from 1802-1945. It was also the site of heavy fightings during the Vietnam War (1959-1975), esp. during the Tet Offensive of 1968. Now Hue is a modern city on the banks of the beautiful Perfume River, with the 19th century Imperial City under restoration befitting its UNESCO World Heritage Site status
